Happy Land Memorial Park offers full-service Taoist rituals(Da Zhai), arranged according to the deceased’s origin (or the family’s request), including Cantonese, Fujianese, Hakka, or Teochew-style ceremonies.
Malaysia Chinese communities have preserved complex traditional Chinese Taoist funeral customs. Today, with environmental and modern considerations, the Taoist funeral ceremony has been simplified. Happy Land Memorial Park offers a 3-day, 2-night Taoist ceremony package that retains essential traditional rites while streamlining non-essential processes
Once the ceremony and enshrinement are confirmed, funeral staff will hang lanterns at the residence and issue the obituary. They also assist with obtaining the death certificate and coordinating funeral arrangements with the family
The coffin will be placed in the Taoist hall at Happy Land Memorial Park, with staff accompanying and overseeing the vigil and other services throughout. Once the setup is complete, the ceremony can begin.
Led by senior Taoist priests, these prayers are often recited in the deceased’s native dialect and are intended to ensure a peaceful transition to reincarnation.
Transporting the coffin to the crematorium for the final farewell ceremony
After the rituals are completed, the urn is placed in the columbarium niche, marking the conclusion of the ceremony

Da Zhai is a Taoist prayer ritual to honour the deceased, guide their soul to a better realm, and bless the family with peace and good fortune. Led by Taoist priests, it involves scripture chanting, offerings, and symbolic items such as incense, fruits, and paper effigies.
In Malaysia, the ceremony is adapted to different dialect traditions (Hokkien, Teochew, Cantonese, or Hakka) while preserving its purpose — to show respect, accumulate merits, and bring comfort to loved ones.
Da Zhai is usually performed during funeral services, memorial anniversaries, or significant dates such as the 7th day, 49th day, or 100th day after passing. Families may also request it during festivals like Qing Ming or the Ghost Festival to bless and guide the departed soul.
Essential items include ritual offerings (fruits, flowers, incense), paper effigies, joss paper, candles, and ceremonial robes for family members. Depending on the package, it may also include a Taoist altar setup, ritual instruments, and professional Taoist priests to conduct the ceremony
Family members usually take part in key moments such as lighting incense, offering prayers, presenting ritual offerings, and participating in farewell rites. Some ceremonies may also include guided chanting or bowing to honor the deceased
A Taoist chanting and offering ritual typically lasts between 1 to 3 hours, depending on the ceremony’s scale and the family’s requests.
The cost varies depending on the number of Taoist priests, the scale of the ritual, and the types of offerings or paper effigies prepared. We offer package-based pricing with transparent charges, and can recommend suitable options based on the family’s budget.
You may arrange a simple ritual for deceased loved ones who have been relocated to the Happy Land Memorial Park columbarium
